Always take the time to research before you buy a new heating system

Sometimes I think people wait until the last minute to make important decisions.

I try not to do that on a regular basis, since I think it’s important to make a list of pros and cons and make an informed decision.

For instance, last year I realized that I was going to need a new furnace system. I thought I could probably make it through one more winter with my old electric furnace, though. So I immediately started doing research to try and figure out what sort of new heating system I would get. I knew that if I started before winter, I’d have a good 12 months or so to make a decision. I read every review on HVAC systems that I could get my hands on. I educated myself on gas furnaces, electric furnaces, high efficiency furnaces, heat pumps, and radiant heated flooring. I made a spreadsheet with all of the pros and cons of each type of heating system, too. After about six months or so in the early spring, I went down to talk to my local HVAC company to get their opinion, too. Well, it turns out that when I went down to talk to them in person at their heating and cooling showroom, they happened to have the very high efficiency furnace that I had decided on right there on the sales floor! Not only that, but the price was cut in half since it was the model from the previous year! Even though I didn’t reach the end of the 12 month timeframe that I’d set for myself, I was pretty happy with the end result. I got a new, high efficiency furnace installed and ready to go months before the weather even starts cooling off.
