Chain link fence doesn't hold back the dog

My wife and I recently moved to a new house.

Our old place had a sturdy wooden fence, but the new house has a chain link fence.

Before we moved, I was worried about the fence. I was afraid that our two big dogs would end up breaking through the fence. The chain link fence appeared to be worn out and dilapidated in many different areas. Sure enough, we were only in the house for a few days when the dogs dug a huge hole under the chain link fence. They were gone for 2 hours and my wife and I were worried and upset. The next day, we called a professional fencing contractor to come give us an estimate for a new wood fence. The contractor was one of the cheapest in the area and he had a lot of great reviews on yelp, yahoo, and google. The contractor came up with a great idea to keep the dogs from digging under the new fence. He placed a piece of wire in the ground and covered it with dirt. If the dogs begin to dig up the ground, they will find a piece of metal fence. Hopefully that will deter them enough to keep them inside of the yard. It was expensive to replace all of the chain link fence and put up wooden posts, but my wife and I don’t have to worry about the safety of our dogs. It’s also nice to have the extra privacy. None of our neighbors can see into the backyard any longer. My wife and I will feel much more safe and secure when we are having private time in the backyard.
