Clogged drains can be as common as dirty air filters

I always knew there was some basic things that I can keep track of when it comes to HVAC maintenance.

I know about changing air filters regularly.

I’m definitely good at that. I have a sticky note on the fridge to remind me to change it every 30 days. I can swear that my air is cleaner and easier to breathe as a result! I also keep track of my outdoor air condenser unit. Every now and then it needs a good hosing down and an inspection to make sure that the interior is not clogged up with dirt and debris. That’s something I can entirely do on my own. I’m glad I’ve been taking notice, because there have indeed been times when there was gunk all up in there that needed a good cleaning. I can’t imagine how much worse off I would be if I did not change out the air filters regularly nor did I clean out the air condenser. I knew I wouldn’t be able to complain about problems and costs, that’s for sure! However, there’s something else I didn’t really know about at first. Clogged drains can be a big problem. They can cause all sorts of problems with your HVAC unit. It also turns out that clogged drains can be just as common as dirty air filters. Running some water and bleach into the drain line should be able to kill the mold and mildew that builds up and causes blockage in the first place. However, if the drains are already clogged, just use a wet vac attached to the drain outside to clear it out!
