My daughter and her boyfriend got engaged, my wife and I decided to throw a huge Garden Party to celebrate. We invited 50 of our closest friends and family members. We had more than 100 people show up on the day. We were well prepared for a large crowd. We hired a caterer for the event. We had lots of hors d’oeuvres and plenty of main entrees for all of the guests. We had meatballs, crab cakes, lasagna, fettucini with chicken, shrimp, and a giant make your own footlong sub bar. Doing buffet style was the right way to go for this style of party. We started the party around 6:00 p.m. and we expected people to stay late into the evening hours. It can be very cold out on the cape at this time of the evening, so we made sure to have plenty of stand up heaters available. We rented portable propane heaters from the party supply store. These are the same type of propane heaters that you see outside of fancy restaurants on cold nights. All of the propane heaters were set up and strategic locations so the entire area was just as warm as it would be indoors. Guests stayed until the early hours of the morning. I think the party was a huge success. We didn’t have any food left over at the end of the night and everyone seemed to have a great time. I’m sure we will have even more fun when we celebrate the day that the kids get married.
