I showed up at the appointed household early one afternoon, and I must have looked lost.
- The lady inside asked if I was looking for Sam, despite the fact that I didn’t know who Sam was, and her question was moot.
I asked if she had a broken A/C unit? Sam told me she needed to have her A/C components worked on, and I took a deep breath. I had received my Heating, Ventilation and A/C degree a few weeks earlier. If it had been anything but a maintenance call, the bosses at the Heating, Ventilation and A/C corporation would not have allowed me to go out by myself. Everyone was out on maintenance calls, and the owner thought it would be a good way for me to get out in the field. He asked if I wanted to do the A/C maintenance on my own. I shrugged and asked if it would be all right. The boss laughed and told me he was the owner, and if he said it was all right, who was going to argue with him. So here I was, a few weeks into being an Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional, and on my first real maintenance call without an instructor. I was slow starting the AC service, because I had never had anyone watching and waiting for me to screw up. I tried to explain to Sam this was my first time on my own, and she watched me even more closely. I finished her AC maintenance in half an hour and looked at her paperwork. I told Sam it was no charge because of her maintenance plan and showed Sam what I did. I felt like an expert when I got back to the Heating, Ventilation and A/C dealership.
