Finding a healthier way of life after divorce

I was only married for four years before I got divorced.

The separation was very nasty and bitter.

Over the course of my marriage, my ex-husband eroded my self-confidence. He found fault with everything I did and how I looked. I allowed him to influence me and control way too many aspects of my life. By the time we divorced, I had no friends, no hobbies and had become someone I didn’t even recognize. While I was determined to turn my life around, I wasn’t sure how to best go about it. I felt very uncertain, depressed and discouraged. My sister recommended that I join a local gym. She said that getting physically fit and healthy would make me feel stronger and that I’d meet people at the gym. Enrolling at the gym was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I found a great outlet for my stress and a positive focus. I signed up for every group class possible and met a whole bunch of like-minded people. I lost quite a bit of weight, built muscle and toned my body. I now head to the gym every day after work and devote several hours to my fitness regiment. In my free time, I go hiking, cycling and kayaking with friends. I feel so much better about myself. I’m stronger, healthier and happier. I’ve found that an active lifestyle keeps me busy and provides new and bigger goals. There’s always something to work toward and be proud of. I look younger and have more energy than ever before. I am currently training for my first marathon.
