People are absolutely spoiled these modern days. Most anything you want can be found locally, ordered online, or manufactured easily. All of us also have the ability to flip a switch or push a button to have things just magically happen when it comes to our appliances. Can you imagine if the two of us no longer had a source of electricity. Our lights, appliances, and iPads would no longer work. You couldn’t easily go to the local grocery store because the registers wouldn’t work. You couldn’t pump gas straight in your motorcar as the pumps run on electric. The world would come to a stop rather completely and suddenly. Now imagine that it is the middle of Winter time and your power is out. How drastically may this affect your afternoon? Your house, if heated with an electric oil furnace or old boiler, would cool off suddenly. Your freezer, over time, would defrost, and your stove won’t really toil either. How would you get by? Now, consider that you have solar panels installed directly on your roof. This alternative source of power will allow all of those things to still effectively operate even during a power outage. Thankfully, I believe in most cases, the power does not stay off long term however if it did you certainly should have a plan in locale to ensure your safety. If you are not in a position to easily use solar energy you should at least have a wood stove or fireplace for added warmth. These can both be used for cooking if it came down to it as well just as they were in many years past before almost everyone had electricity.
