HVAC maintenance is not the place for budget cuts

We are lucky to have the sort of life we do.

  • Sure, my wife and I work really hard to provide a nice house with great quality heating and air.

But there is more to life than stuff. We do our best to try and balance working inside the zone controlled HVAC of our respective offices with enjoying life. For sure, I don’t want to be that person who finally quits working to then be too worn down to enjoy life. Life is for living now and my wife and I do our best to put that in action. However, that’s balanced by the fact that we stick to a budget. When the pandemic was raging, we had to work from the air conditioning safety of home instead of at the office. Both of us had to take pay cuts to keep our jobs. That was a bit of a wakeup call and resulted in some serious belt tightening. In fact, what we spent on the HVAC service plan was actually on the cutting block. Our thinking was that we had been so consistent with HVAC maintenance that perhaps we could take a year or two off and save that money. We toyed with that idea for some time. However, since we were both working from home that summer, we decided to see just how much we could save on HVAC cooling. We sealed up the house, covered up the windows that were getting direct sunlight heating and pushed the thermostat setting higher than ever. All of these actions resulted in us saving a significant amount of money over the entire summer. Enough was saved that we were able to pay for the HVAC service plan with that money.
