When I was over at my sister’s house the other day, I couldn’t believe how gross the air vents were. Usually I don’t say anything about the way that she keeps her house, because she has a lot of kids and three big dogs. I try to just keep my mouth shut, even though I am a bit of a clean freak myself. I know that it’s really none of my business how neat or how dirty her house is, but the other day when I was there I felt like I needed to say something. Not because I was trying to judge her or anything but because I’m afraid that the indoor air quality in her house is so bad that it’s going to end up making her or her kids sick. I was in the kitchen and I thought that I would help her out by doing some of the dishes that were piled up in the sink. Then I heard the air conditioning kick on, but I noticed that there was a strange whistling sound coming from the air conditioning vent under the table. I went over there to see what that sound was all about, and that’s when I saw that the air vent cover was displaced from the air duct. At first I thought one of the kids must have just caught it on a skateboard or something and jiggled it out of place, but when I went to put it back in the air duct, it would not go in. I moved it and that’s when I saw the layers and layers of dog hair and dust down inside the duct work!
