I laughed because I knew how old this AC unit was.
My air conditioning unit was less than five years old. We don’t use it too much, but it does get used. We have the annual inspections done to make sure everything is alright before summer. There have been a few minor repairs, but the HVAC tech told us it was just normal wear and tear. Last month, I called to have the inspections done on the air conditioning unit. Our normal HVAC technician was no longer working for our HVAC company. They said they had an excellent technician that would be taking his place. The HVAC technician was new to the company, but he had great references from several companies. I wondered why he had references from several companies, but I didn’t say anything. When the young man got out of the HVAC service van, I was a bit hesitant. He was so young, and once again, I was thinking about his references from several companies. I showed him to the air conditioning unit, and he went right to work. I couldn’t believe his inspection was taking over an hour. Never had it taken anybody that long to do an inspection. When he came in, he told me the air conditioning unit was shot and it was necessary for me to buy a new one. I laughed because I knew how old this AC unit was. I asked if he was sure? When he said yes, I picked up the phone and called the HVAC company. I asked for the owner and told him what happened. I wanted a different HVAC tech at the house and this one would be waiting. The HVAC company owner showed up about ten minutes later.
