I felt like a fish out of water.

Everyone thinks the grass is greener on the other side, and I was one of them.

When the company I worked for offered me a huge raise and a new position, I jumped at it.

Since my wife was from up north, I was pretty sure she would agree with my position. Three months later, the company had found us a temporary house until we sold our home and we could buy one of our own. They took care of all our moving expenses. All we had to do was hop on a plane and they would move all of our belongings, including our vehicles. Our children had never seen snow, and it thrilled them to be moving up north. The one thing I had never thought about was that I had never been north. We arrived in the middle of a snowstorm, and I was instantly regretting my decision. Just looking at the snow made me shiver, and I was searching for air vents to huddle near while still in the airport. When we got to the house, I was eager to get in. No one had adjusted the thermostat so I would have the heat on. I quickly turned the furnace on and waited for the heat to come through the air vents. I was never so happy as I was when I heard the furnace running. When the heat began blowing out, I started liking our new home. I was a fish out of water, but I was going to survive. As long as we had an excellent furnace to keep me warm, I knew I would get through five months of cold, and I would have summer to look forward to.
