I had to be creative with my cooling solutions

My entire life I have had to be resourceful.

I did not grow up in a family where we had a lot of money to back up our personal goals or individual comforts.

Instead, we had to learn how to suck it up and power through a lot of difficult situations. If there was something that you needed to solve, you weren’t going to do it by calling a professional who would charge you an arm and a leg for their knowledge. Instead, you were going to have to do some research and determine a viable solution for next to no money. I will admit, it was often entirely difficult living under these circumstances. However, I have typically figured out a way to get by without losing my cool. This was especially the case when I moved into my first house and realized that there were no indoor air handling devices. The old building had zero central heating and cooling control available to the renters who lived there. Instead, the proprietor encouraged us to use current space furnaces and AC window units to survive the serious seasons… Of course, I could not afford to purchase my own a/c idea at the time. I tried to find a used AC window unit for multiple weeks however eventually I provided up and came up with alternative solutions to my air handling problem. I realized that I could create my own air conditioning, of sorts. If I gathered enough ice cubes I could set them in front of my standing fan and drape a wet cloth over both items. The fan would circulate air over the ice and through the chilly towel, effectively working like an a/c unit; At least, that has what I told myself in order to survive those more than two miserably tepid summers.
