When the HVAC technician told me we needed a new air conditioning unit before summer, I took him serious.
I immediately began looking at all the different air conditioning units available, and at their efficiency ratings.
I found out that efficiency ratings not only referring to the energy use of the air conditioning unit, but it also refers to the amount of air conditioning we received for the least amount of energy. I decided I wanted an AC unit with SEER of at least 20. The HVAC technician came to the house that week, and asked what I had decided on. I told him I wanted the SEER of at least 20 and he smiled. He said that was really aggressive, and it was doable. He wanted to make sure we had what we wanted, and he was going to get us specs on several air conditioning units they had in stock. I thanked him, and he said he would be back the next day when my husband was home. We sat down that night and discussed what I had found, and he agreed with me. Now, all we had to do was look at the AC units the HVAC tech was talking about. We carefully went over the four AC units they had in stock. I liked the one more than the others, and asked what the biggest difference was. He told me the SEER was 20, and it was a more compact AC unit. He could install the AC unit the following week, and we set up the appointment for when both my husband and I were home.
