I wish I had listened to my mom.

No one wants to admit that their mother was right.

  • I had to say I should have listened to my mother, especially now that I am an adult.

Whenever I ask my mother for advice; I don’t follow it. Inevitably, I find out that she is most likely going to be right. I don’t know if it is because of her age, or just that she has experienced the same situation and had a learning moment. That happened to me when I was complaining about all the dust in my house. Mom told me I should call the HVAC company and have them send out a crew of professional ductwork cleaners. I called the HVAC company, but I put in a service call for my furnace. I was sure that there was something wrong with the furnace. The heating wasn’t working properly, but my furnace was running all the time. When the HVAC technician arrived, he went all over the furnace. He told me he thought there was a lot of stress on the furnace because of lack of airflow. When I asked what could cause an airflow problem, he told me there could be a blockage in the ductwork. He asked how long it had been since I had the ductwork cleaned? I had no idea when that was; I only knew that I hadn’t had the ductwork cleaned since I had moved into the house. I moved into the house nearly six years ago. Had I listened to my mom, I would have had the ductwork cleaned and the furnace would be working again. I hate it when she is right.
