A couple years ago, we got rid of our oil furnace. The old furnace was giving us a lot of trouble and we were spending too much on fuel and energy. The efficiency of the furnace was compromised because of its age. We looked into several different types of furnace, prior to making our decisions. The HVAC company was good enough to give us the details on several models of furnace and we had the summer to decide what we wanted. We knew we didn’t want another oil furnace and I was definitely against the gas furnace. I knew that if something happened to the components, the gas furnace was more likely to create carbon monoxide poisoning. I knew how deadly carbon monoxide could be, so we have a carbon monoxide detector in our home. After talking about electric heat, and even the possibility of putting in a mini split HVAC system, we finally opted to put in a boiler system. The boiler seemed ideal for us since we had already discussed the possibility of putting radiant heated flooring into our bathroom. It was a simple task to put the water pipes under the bathroom floors so we could have the heating done. The ceiling was already open in the basement and we have a one floor home. They simply laid out the plumbing for the entire main floor and put in the baseboard heating for the other rooms. We’ve not regretted having the boiler system for our heating. Our energy bills are really low and we don’t have to worry about using fossil fuel. This makes our granddaughter happy and the heating makes us happy.
