When I was a young boy, I always remember the holiday seasons. There are a lot of fond memories. We used to go to my uncle’s house on Christmas. My uncle lived about 3 hours away, so we always ended up staying overnight. My uncle was well off money wise. He had the best of everything. The one thing I really remember well, is the wonderful natural fireplace he had in his home. This fireplace was not one of those fake ones with gas or electric. The fireplace my uncle had was a real fireplace complete with logs and chimney. Back in those days, having a true authentic fireplace was a rare thing. Not to mention, that fireplace kept everyone very warm and toasty when we would have those freezing cold and snowy Christmas days and nights. The fireplace also added a bit of charm and class to the living room’s atmosphere. The very tall and beautiful decorated Christmas tree reflecting off the fireplace was something I just can’t explain. You would have had to be there! The fireplace had glass doors on it to close it when not in use, and that is when the Christmas tree really shined! I truly miss those days being a kid and going to my uncle’s place every single Christmas. Today, most of my family isn’t even alive anymore, and those that are do not live in the same state. With my own wife and kids today, I try to recreate that feel of Christmas that my uncle had back in the day. Including the fireplace!
