My brother Jon really loves to get good deals on all kinds of things.
He’s constantly looking for sales and coupons for everything that he needs.
If something isn’t on clearance or on sale, he simply will not buy it. I guess that’s probably a good way to be most of the time, but sometimes it ends up coming back to bite him! For instance, a few weeks ago before the weather started heating up outside, Jon’s heating system stopped working in his house. Now, at that point in time, there were no HVAC companies around here offering a discount on furnace repairs or maintenance work. When Jon figured out that he couldn’t get a discount on getting his furnace fixed, he decided that he was going to try and fix it himself. He wasted a whole weekend watching a bunch of videos online and of course, he never did figure out how to fix the furnace. He spent the next couple of weeks freezing in his house without a working furnace to heat him up. I asked him why he didn’t just use a small electric space heater in his bedroom or something instead and he said that it was because he couldn’t find a space heater that was on sale. He said that he wasn’t about to buy a space heater for full price. Instead, he just stayed cold until the weather started heating up. Sometimes, I just have to roll my eyes at him. Being frugal is one thing, but being too cheap to stay warm is another!
