Yesterday was the big dance recital for my performing arts school.
We have one big show each year, and it’s a huge deal for all of the students and their parents and families.
The instructors at the school are always all stressed out because of course, they want everything to go perfectly for the show. Well, this year, it was about an hour before the curtain was supposed to go up, and the air conditioning in the theater stopped working. Normally, this wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, but the weather was really heating up outside. The temperature was already in the mid eighties and it was climbing! Plus we knew we were going to have a packed house and the thoughts of all of that body heat crammed into the theater with no A/C was just terrible! The director of the show got on the phone with the HVAC company but they said there was no way they could get there to work on the A/C before the show. However, my dad is an HVAC technician and he was sitting in the parking lot waiting for the doors to open so he could see me dance. I mentioned this to the director and I thought she was going to kiss me! She was so happy and we ran out to the parking lot and got my dad. He checked on the theater’s thermostat and took a look at the cooling system. Within just a few minutes, he had the air conditioning up and running again!
