My furnace had me worried.

My furnace had me worried last week.

It wasn’t that there wasn’t enough heat, and it wasn’t making any odd noises.

To be honest, it seemed to be working too well. I was waiting for the calm before the storm scenario to happen. I always heard a small noise right before the furnace turned on. The pipes would hum as the heat came up through them and then they would crackle as they expanded. I wasn’t hearing any of this, and it had me worried. I called the HVAC company and told them I needed to have my furnace inspected. The young man asked what was happening with the furnace, and I had to tell him nothing seemed to be wrong. The furnace was working too well. That is why I was working. The furnace was working better than it had ever worked, and I was waiting for it to break down. I heard him trying to hold back his laughter, but he promised to have someone in the house as soon as possible. Two days later, there was an HVAC technician in the basement; working on my furnace. He told me that there was definitely a problem with my furnace and had I waited much longer, my furnace would have quit working. I told my husband to never underestimate the power of a woman’s intuition. When she tells you there is something wrong, she is usually right. This time, I proved it by calling the HVAC company even before the furnace broke and saved us by not needing to go without heat.
