When my nephew told me that he wanted to become an HVAC technician, I thought he was joking at first.
I knew he was dead serious though when I saw the look in his eye. The thing is, he has always been socially awkward and he was always a very shy kid. I was telling him that if he really wanted to get into this type of work, he had to have a little charisma and really communicate with the people he was working with. I explained that to be successful in this type of business, communication is key. I actually practiced interviewing with him asking him various questions while he was attending an HVAC trade school. I was happy because he was doing better and better as he practiced. By the time he earned his HVAC certification, I was really proud of him. We had practiced with his social skills and interviewing so much, he actually was hired after his very first interview with a local HVAC company that was highly reputable. It’s funny because the boss at the HVAC company said he needed more outgoing and gifted HVAC technicians like my nephew. It really goes to show that if you want something bad enough, you can make it happen if you put the work in. My nephew thanks me all the time for helping him out and believing in him. I always tell him that it was in him all along, he just needed a little push. Now, he’s a very gifted HVAC technician and he even has a beautiful girlfriend who he plans on asking to marry him.
