My wife really hates the fact that I have to work nearly every holiday weekend because of the type of career that I have. When you are an HVAC technician like I am, it’s really important for you to be available for your customers when they need you. And for some reason, it turns out that people really seem to need their HVAC companies whenever it’s a weekend or a holiday. Maybe it’s because people are home more and they are using their air conditioning and heating systems more on weekends and holidays. I’m not sure what the cause is, but I do know that holiday weekends are generally our busiest time for emergency calls around the HVAC office where I work. My wife understands that this is an issue, but it still doesn’t help matters when it comes to family dinners and things like that. She gets really angry whenever she’s trying to host a family party or dinner during a holiday weekend and all of a sudden, my HVAC phone line rings. The HVAC line always seems to ring right when we’re having the greatest time together. She gets so mad that she always threatens to call my boss at the heating and cooling company and yell at them about my schedule herself. I always tell her that it’s not really a good idea to do that, since we have to have my income to live! She never calls them up, of course. My wife is all bark and no bite, but she really does hate it when I have to leave a family celebration to go and fix a stranger’s air conditioning system.
