I’ve always been very sensitive to smell. People tend to joke and call me the bloodhound because I can even track the source of smells, especially if the smells are bad. I have always considered it to be a curse because it’s never pleasant for me, unless I am smelling things that happen to be nice like flowers. I already know the people who I enjoy visiting and who I don’t based upon the smells in their homes. For example, I can tell if people have air purification systems because I can actually smell how clean the home is and how good the air quality is. I was actually surprised the other day when I went to visit my brother. He usually has good air quality and keeps a clean house, but I smelled something awful when I was there visiting. He didn’t smell anything but to me, it smelled like a dead animal. I followed the scent and it took me to one of the HVAC vents. I immediately felt sick and told him there was something in there that definitely died. When he looked into the HVAC vent, it was a dead rat! He ended up calling an exterminator service who checked the rest of the ductwork for any rodents, and he managed to find a few others. My brother thanked me for finding this issue before it became a complete infestation. I was happy to help, but it definitely makes me feel sick just thinking about it. This is why people should always have their ductwork systems cleaned out by the professionals.
