Remember the HVAC Air Filters Over the Holidays

The candles make for a lovely ambiance but, all that wax can be murder on an HVAC unit.

My wife and daughters are really, really into the holiday season. It gets pretty intense with all the decorations and preparations. Things kick off just prior to Halloween. In our area, this is just about the time that the HVAC cooling is off until late spring. Once Halloween is over, there is a NASCAR pitstop style decoration transition into Thanksgiving. The ladies really start getting into it about this time of year. This is the time that signals me to do important HVAC tasks. I have the HVAC technician come out to give our HVAC a seasonal maintenance tune up. That heat pump has, at that point, been fairly busy from all the air conditioning during the heat season. This way, I know for sure that everything will go as planned when I flip the thermostat over to heating. The other task is to go get a few cases of HVAC air filters. This may sound like overkill but you’ll see why it’s necessary. My wife and daughters go crazy with candles during the holiday months. I mean our home resembles a dark ages cathedral at times there are so many candle going. Well, with that many candles burning, all that wax has to go somewhere. You guessed it, the wax ends up absolutely coating the HVAC air filter in the return. The candles make for a lovely ambiance but, all that wax can be murder on an HVAC unit. The wax really obstructs the air flow. So, I have to change the air filter like every 10 days during the holiday period. Otherwise, I’m afraid I might choke out the HVAC unit.
