The truck got stuck in the ice and we were stranded for twelve hours

The winter weather is always a problem in this part of the country.

Storms come through the area and drop several feet of snow in a couple of hours.

I’ve been stranded a couple of times since I’ve been a licensed driver. I’ll never forget the first time I got stuck in a winter storm. I was just 18 years old and on my way home from a basketball game. That game was out of town and my friends and I wanted to take the car. My mom and dad were nervous, but there was no snow in the forecast. It started snowing during the middle of the game and there was 6 inches of snow on the highway when my friends and I tried to get home. We ended up stuck in a ditch on the side of the road. We slid on some ice and the truck wouldn’t go anywhere after that. I didn’t have any service on my cell phone. We were in the middle of nowhere, sixteen miles from the freeway and the next gas station. We sat on the side of the road for several hours waiting for someone to drive by and offer our assistance. Thankfully the heater in the car worked, because the temperature outside was in the single digits. If my friends and I had been stranded without heat in the truck, we might have frozen to death in a couple of hours. We were able to sit in the car where it was safe and warm and wait for help to arrive.
