The water on the floor wasn’t from the dog

My partner & I recently adopted a puppy from a local shelter! We named her Princess and she’s a caramel colored cocker spaniel, russell mix.

We are still potty training her so the other evening when we discovered a puddle on the dining room floor we assumed that she had an accident.

But as we observed the puddle a little more we were able to see that there was a slow drip, coming from a corner of the HVAC grate right above where the puddle was. I was relieved that it was such a slow leak because I recall this happened in my last apartment. As it turns out, if the HVAC vent isn’t correctly secured to the wall or isn’t sealed correctly, water will leak out of the side of it! This is caused by condensation building up over time. I knew this was the complication when I got a step stool & put my hand up to the side of the vent. I could easily feel air seeping out of the side where the drip was coming from. The next afternoon, I went to the hardware store & purchased some sealant & applied it all around the air vent. I also called an official a/c serviceman to check on the rest of the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C device just in case I missed something. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C worker said that our system of ductwork was in wonderful shape but advocated I get my A/C drain line replaced, however I could save myself some currency & use a shop vac or vinegar & try to get it cleaned up that way.
