When I became a first time homeowner, I was broke.
I put all my money towards the down payment on the house and there was very little leftover for basic necessities.
I was on a strict budget that allowed me to eat and pay the bills but that was it. For the first year, I didn’t buy anything new or lavish because I had to put it all towards the house. I spent my money responsibly by hiring HVAC professionals to come to my house twice per year to service the relatively new HVAC equipment because it was important. I couldn’t afford to have any heat or air issues, so hiring an HVAC professional was essential in caring for my HVAC system. I also bought cheap air filters to replace the clogged filters every three months. I purchased the cheap air filters because it seemed like a good way to save money. I didn’t want to spend the extra money on a “nicer” air filter because I was trying to save. Recently however, I realized what a mistake I was making. I thought I was saving money by purchasing cheap air filters but I was actually spending more in a year. Cheap air filters could only hold so much dirt and debri, which meant that they needed to be replaced frequently. More expensive air filters were thicker and better quality, meaning they didn’t need to be replaced nearly as often. Not only this, but they were better at picking up dirt and debri. Now, I look for quality over price when purchasing my air filters.
