My husband plus I have lived in the same tiny town ever since we were born. We attended the same High School, even though we weren’t in the same grade, we grew up a few houses away from each other. He played basketball plus I played field hockey and volleyball. We met each other when school was finished plus we got married plus had a couple children! Our daughter is old enough to play basketball this year for the varsity team, and she is a starting freshman. She has a fantastic jump shot and will outscore a lot of older seniors this year. My husband plus I went to her first game a few afternoons ago, and she scored 30 points in the first half alone. Neither of us could believe her range plus accuracy during the game. My husband never had that skill or determination while playing. The old gym smelled the same. We remember that awful smell distinctly. The Heating plus Air Conditioning system inside the gym worked sporadically. Some afternoons there was no heat or a/c. There were still classes though, even if everyone was wearing a coat and hat. I remember numerous times when I had volleyball practice in the gym even though it was icy cold. The smell of old sweat socks, gym lockers, plus grime filled the gym when it was hot, plus the smell is still the same. My husband and I can’t wait until our last kid graduates, so we move away somewhere hot.
