When it Rains, It Pours

Have you ever heard the expression :when it rains, it pours?” My mom used to say that a lot, and when I was a kid, I had no clue what on earth that meant.

As I got older, though, I discovered it has nothing to do with rain. It has to do with bad things happening. It is the notion that if one bad thing happens, more bad things are going to come crashing down on you, too. Thus, when it rains, it pours. This is true where I work. Right now, the problems are weak and slow internet connections, a phone that is completely useless, a broken elevator, and now heating and cooling that has gone off the rails. The air conditioner in my boss’s office didn’t work at all for the first three months. Finally, the HVAC crew discovered it wasn’t even connected. Then, at some point, we had a reception planned, and the a/c quit working again. It was a nightmare. The air conditioning service techs came in and did something to make it work for that night, but they never came back and put it right. At least that’s what I think happened. All I know is now that it is winter, we have so much heating running through the office that we are both miserable. I decided I was just going to give up and turn the whole darn HVAC system off. Guess what? It still keeps spitting hot air out at me, even though the thermostat clearly reads “system off.” NO matter what I do, I can’t get the stuff in my office to work right. By far, the most annoying is the crazy heating and cooling.
