Work is never boring when you’re an HVAC technician.

I never thought that I would find a job I would enjoy going to every day. I have ADHD and I got bored very easily. I was always getting in trouble when I was in school because I would be disrupting the class. I didn’t know how to harness all the energy I had, and my parents refused to medicate me. Through a lot of physical and emotional therapy, I found a release through yoga. Yoga helped me to center myself and learn how to rein in the energy that was trying to burst out. I knew that after graduation I had to find a job that didn’t bore me. My therapist suggested HVAC technical school, but he said he was being selfish. He laughed and said it would be nice to have a patient who could work on his air conditioning while talking to him. Although the last comment was said cheekily, I took his career idea seriously. I went to the local community college and signed up for HVAC certification classes. I knew I would have problems with the book part, but my girlfriend offered to help me out. I was worried about what would happen while in class, but the instructor kept it interesting. From the very beginning, he was showing us new furnaces and air conditioning units. He had us doing a lot of hands-on training, and he never missed a beat. I wanted to talk to him after class and thank him. He told me he always noticed a fellow ADHD patient, and he knew how hard it was for him to focus in class.
