Always make sure to file your warranty paperwork.

Over the years we have learned a lot about being responsible adults.

My mom always used to tell me that one day I would have to grow up and take responsibility for my actions and I have learned the hard way that this was a true statement.

Holding down a job and owning a home comes with a lot of responsibility and I can honestly say I was not prepared for it when I was younger. Of course, living in a dorm during my college years did nothing to prepare me for that either. While I was there I didn’t have many responsibilities as far as taking care of paying bills or making repairs similar to when I lived at home. After graduation I landed a really good job which helped me to afford a nice apartment at first and eventually a home of my own. I remember when I first bought the house and we had to install a new HVAC system. I hired a company to do that for me and assumed that that was all I had to do, however, a few years later when it broke down and I realized I never filed for the warranty I ended up having to pay out of pocket for repairs I thought we’re covered. The technician asked me why I never filed for the warranty and said he would do what he could but I would be responsible for he labor cost at a minimum due to the fact I never finished the application. Just about everything you purchase comes with some sort of a manufacturer’s warranty and I have learned the hard way that you need to pay attention to the requirements in order to be eligible to use it.
