Better collect wood, the power is fickle

I can tell you that I am not exactly the outdoorsy type.

When I was growing up I did not enjoy being outside whatsoever. Whenever I was outdoors it was because my dad was making me help him with some ridiculous project that mostly entailed being yelled at. As such, I definitely don’t have the best memories of being out in nature or performing physical tasks surrounded by tall trees and babbling brooks. This is probably why I am so averse to the idea of using a traditional wood-burning fireplace for modern indoor warmth. If you ask me, it makes no sense to rely on an outdated, energy-inefficient heating process such as using a traditional wood-burning fireplace. However, when you live in an area that tends to have power outages throughout the ice cold winter season, there isn’t much of a choice. Where my family is staying these days requires a backup plan for the modern heating system that we normally would use. When we lose energy there is obviously no way to make the electric forced air furnace pump warm air through our central heating and cooling system. Therefore, we have to be ready with the wood burning fireplace at all times. There are so many days each winter when we have no energy whatsoever, and therefore no modern Heat. At that time it becomes necessary for a rudimentary heating system such as the forced air furnace to be pulled into the game. This is how I find myself standing outside, freezing my ass off and collecting logs. You have to be ready when the heating system is fickle.
