Check behind the fireplace

I’ve always known that my dad was a bit of an eccentric human being. I didn’t have a close relationship with him because we didn’t have much in common. However, my brothers always made sure to go visit and keep in touch with him. This is why they were not particularly surprised when he suddenly disappeared one day without leaving a note. They assumed that he had finally run off to Mexico after a deal had gone sour with one of the local biker gangs. Now, we needed to search his property for clues and valuables before the entire place was ransacked. I had no idea where to start… But my brothers insisted that the fireplace was the most important place to look. Apparently, my dad had a penchant for hiding things behind the sturdy brick wall that supported the massive fireplace hearth. There were a few air vents placed into the sturdy stone work, which they immediately popped off of the enormous heating device. These events served to collect hot air and circulated through the entire room for efficient Indoor air temperature control with this rudimentary heating system. As we checked behind the vents I couldn’t help but notice the massive woodpile which was used to fuel the heating system. My brothers fiddled with the fireplace while I unstacked a few pieces of wood. Wouldn’t you know, there was a valuable lock box hidden behind the wood that fueled the fireplace he loved so dearly. It’s a good thing that they understood how important this traditional heating system was to my reclusive father.
