DIY HVAC SNAFU: The Day I Should Have Gone AWOL.

It is common place for us to think we are capable of tackling any DIY chore with guaranteed success.

Well, that’s what the online instruction pundit PROMISED…SUCCESS.

They LIED! Some things I learned the hard way and HVAC service and heater repair was one. That abnormally unexpected chilly morning, our furnace opted to go on vacation further south so rather than wade through the dozens of emergency HVAC emergency repair providers, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Armed with home vacuum, a flashlight, a wire brush and screwdriver and thus began the end of my HVAC business. Count on your HVAC business to get the job done right…the first time. Don’t take cooling or heating repair lightly or very soon, you’ll find yourself up limit in disassembled ducts, additional air conditioner repair or heater installation. All due to your DIY attempt. Any HVAC technician worthy of the conditioning of your furnace or air conditioner will make every attempt possible at working with both your budget and timeframe. If you trust your furnace service or air conditioner repair to a certified and reputable HVAC business, the DIY horror story will end happily ever after. No fooling, just cooling. Try as I might, I carried on and was more than frustrated when the vacuum wouldn’t reach up into the furnace to suck out any clogs, the screws I unfastened to pry open the now bent out of shape ducts were stripped beyond recycling and the sun was sinking. Facing no other option, I swallowed my pride and waited for an HVAC technician to arrive. The heater repair was completed within an hour, the furnace was purring gently, and I was enjoying the slice of humble pie with a side order of heating HVAC conditioning training 101 under my belt.
