Don’t forget to leave the heat on

Sometimes I’m amazed at how little people know about basic responsibilities in life.

You would think that we would all have the same ideas and considerations when it comes to living a modern life… And yet that seems to be the complete opposite of my normal experience. Whenever I’m talking to my peers I am amazed by how little they understand about the world and being an adult in it. I feel like I’m always lecturing my friends and co-workers on the ways to keep themselves alive and driving. Recently, I was talking about the necessities of indoor air temperature control year-round when my friends threw me another curveball. Not only do most of them have no idea how energy bills and central heating and cooling systems work… But they definitely don’t understand the ways that you rely on your indoor air temperature control even when you aren’t at home. If you have ever gone out of town in the middle of summer then you understand that air conditioning is still necessary when nobody is in the house. You have to manage your mold and mildew by keeping the humidity under control even when no one is around. In the winter things are no different when it comes to your heating system. You have to pay for your central heating system to keep working even if nobody is enjoying the warmth. Otherwise, you will potentially wind up with burst pipes and a much bigger issue than your high energy bill. My pals were baffled by this news. Am I the only one who knew this?
