Getting used to using less heating and air

We are similarly conservative during the winter time.

Me and my wife decided to set more conservative temperatures on the thermostat throughout the year a long time ago. We do live in an area that requires both air conditioner in the summer and heating during the winter time, as well as other parts of the year. It’s not like we could go without it entirely but we have tried to pinch your pennies and work with less heating and cooling. The result is that we have gotten used to being more sparing with our HVAC unit. Many other people might consider our settings to be too high in the summer and too low in the winter. For example, even during some of the hottest weather in the summertime, 76 degrees is perfect for us. Sometimes, we feel cool enough to set it to 77! In fact, even if we were to set it a couple degrees lower at 75, we actually feel cold! Then we hear about people who set their air conditioners to 65° during the summer and we just can’t believe it. We are similarly conservative during the winter time. Sixty-five degrees is warm enough for us, although occasionally we might bump it up to 67 on particularly cold nights. Again, we know some people that will consider that to be way too cold. It’s Certainly good to have gotten used to using our air conditioner and heating less, because we are definitely saving a lot of money that way! I would say on the whole, we are much happier than when we abused the thermostat and paid a lot more money as a result.
