I was going to pour water on the fire until the HVAC professional came running in.

I had called over an HVAC technician to help me fix my air conditioner unit.

I was in the kitchen helping prepare breakfast for my family while he was working outside.

I was always told when I was younger that if you end up having a grease fire, you should either smother it with a lid or put it out with salt or baking soda. I ended up having a grease fire, and I completely forgot this knowledge and almost tried to put it out with water. I was right at the sink ready to put water in the glass when the HVAC technician came running back into the house and told me to turn the water off. I turned the water off and put the glass back down and thanked him for stopping me. I guess my brain hadn’t registered that it was a grease fire, and all I knew was that it was a fire that I needed to put out immediately. The HVAC technician just said that he was happy that he happened to notice the fire and ran into the house at just the right time. The truth is, if I had attempted to throw water on the grease fire, it is possible that my whole house would have burned down. Water actually spreads grease fires around and the fire would have jumped to everything around the stove. So, not only did the HVAC professional fix my air conditioner that day, he also saved my house from burning down. I asked him what caused him to run into the house at just the right moment, and he said that he caught a look at the flame in the corner of his eye. He didn’t notice me or anyone else in the kitchen, so he ran in, hoping that he would stop the fire before it spread. I’ll never be able to thank this HVAC technician enough for saving my home.
