Normally, I do not pay much attention or care when our family updates our appliances or features around our home. I don’t get to choose what our parents decide to buy and they usually don’t impact me much. However, when our parents updated our furnace and A/C to a more advanced HVAC plan with a smart control unit, it was something that benefited all of us. With this new HVAC system, the two of us each had control of the hot and cold temperatures in every room. Every one of us used redtooth to connect our smartphones to the smart control equipment with an app. The heating plan was particular to every room, meaning that just because the heat is on in one room, the air could be on in the other, anyone connected to the smart control equipment could change the temperature with a few taps on their PC. If I am in our bed, I can control the heat or A/C without going downstairs or making other people in the apartment uncomfortable with the temperature change. My number one feature is being able to check and change the temperature of the apartment when I’m not even at home. After a long day at school in the winter, our heat is usually not running, leaving our new home legitimately cold. Before I drive home, I use the app to turn on our heater, so by the time I arrive at our house, it is much warmer inside. I am surprised by how much I like having this smart, new feature in our house. My parents are surprised by how much I use it as well, and our Dad is constantly trying to monitor our brother and I to make sure the two of us don’t cause the energy costs to rise too much.
