Keep some extra air filters on hand

Getting Sheeba from the humane society ended up being one of the best decisions I ever made. I took my daughters there on Valentine’s Day, and although I hadn’t decided we would get a dog, I was open to the idea. Then we met Sheeba, and we all fell in love with her. Now every year on Valentine’s Day we celebrate Sheeba Day, since she is a rescue dog they don’t know what her birthday is. That isn’t to say she didn’t present her fair share of problems for the household. She was great, but she shed an awful lot, and that had an impact on the central HVAC system. It isn’t her fault of course, how would she know about air filters, she is just a dog! I should have known better, but to be honest I had never changed an air filter before in my life and it just didn’t occur to me it would get clogged. Over the course of a few weeks her shed hair and dander had been pulled into the intake vents ,and eventually coated the entire air filter to the point air couldn’t pass through it. It is a small thing, and doesn’t cost very much, but an air filter is so important that it can cripple your whole HVAC system if you let it. I certainly learned my lesson, and now I keep a multi-pack of extra air filters out in my garage, just so that I can change out the dirty air filter in the HVAC system whenever I need to.
