Proximity to the water boiler is the key to classroom heat

One thing they don’t tell you is that when you 1st get hired to be a mentor, the older mentors supply you with all the worst stuff.

Not only did I get the least desirable classroom, supplies, and chairs, although I got the teens that all the mentors didn’t want. It was Cruel to me and those teens too, right? Anyway, our classroom wasn’t considered a good one because it was at the faraway end of the building. You had to walk forever to reach it. It also had leaky windows and was far from the school’s oil furnace. It meant in the wintertime it was cold cold in our room. I had to sneak in a small oil furnace our first year. It was so cold. The school boiler system died after that semester though. The school ended up replacing it with a new model and putting it on our side of the building. I went from being cold all day long in school to being perfectly warm. The oil furnace is on a timer. The school is cheap and only starts the oil furnace when the students arrive and has it quit a second before they leave. Since mentors come early and leave later, it meant most rooms were freezing cold all day. The classrooms on the opposite side of the boiler never seemed to get warm. I was abruptly the 1st room to earn heating and by the time it was cold at the end of the day, I was ready to go back home. Suddenly all the mentors wanted to switch rooms with me and offer better school supplies for our room.
