Takes a lot to be an HVAC professional

But we also got to talking about all the certification, training and licensing that’s involved in him being able to do what he does.

There are plenty of time when things are going badly inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office that I wish I was somewhere else. I look out my window and wonder if all this stress is really worth it. I love the paycheck and I love having a cool office with my own thermostat. But the stress and the constant triage is getting to me. I’ll look out that window in my office and think about just doing something else. Like doing something where I don’t have to deal with people as much. I have a buddy who is an HVAC contractor and I sometimes wish that I had a job that took me outside and away from the phones and stress of the office. But to be an HVAC technician, much less and HVAC contractor, is no easy thing. There is a reason they call these people HVAC professionals. I spent an afternoon with my buddy once while he was overseeing the installation of new residential HVAC. It was a new house and they were getting the very latest HVAC equipment and all the new HVAC technology as well. It was quite a thing to behold. But we also got to talking about all the certification, training and licensing that’s involved in him being able to do what he does. For him, heating and cooling is actually a passion so the training and continuing education came pretty naturally. Yet, there is just so much to being an HVAC professional that I’m not sure that I’d be up to it. Still, when it’s an ugly day inside the commercial HVAC of the office, I’m a little jealous of my buddy the HVAC contractor.
