You think the North is hot

Growing up in the northern part of the country, I experienced a lot.

It’s a different world up there, let me tell you.

Plenty of people talk about the Midwest wind and snow, not to mention the big open skies. What they don’t tell you about is all of the weather extremes that you will face in a given year. We didn’t only have terrible Winters, the Summers were god-awful as well. This is a fact that I certainly respected before, but I think living in the South has changed my opinion. You see you living up north, the air was regularly hot all summer long. It would get into the 80s and occasionally climb as high as the 90s. It definitely felt hot every day and the sun was particularly scourging when you didn’t have much tree cover. It also got quite humid, which was part of the Lake Michigan lake effects. In short, you ran your AC All Summer Long. however, these days I live in the Deep South. I can tell you, summer is a whole other beast down here. It gets into the 90s basically every day of the summer. The humidity never falls below 80%. Our nighttime temperatures are regularly in the 80s, so you don’t even get a chance to cool down at night. The biggest problem, however, is how long this weather pattern last. Up north the heat of summer usually was two or three months of misery. Down here it’s more like 6 to 8 months of continual hellish heat and stagnant air. That means you’re running your AC unit every single day and night, just trying to keep yourself from overheating. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I know that I’m tough from being raised in the midwest, but nothing prepared me for the heat, humidity, and stagnation of the South.
