If you don’t like the sun, living in the South is not going to be for you.
If rainy days and cloudy skies are your thing then don’t move here.
We got here just over 5 years ago. We came down here from the north like many others choose to do. We put a cap on our careers and promptly opted to spend the rest of our years enjoying great weather. No more HVAC furnaces for us. We found a small 3 bedroom home in a quaint little town. It was such a great place with lots of potential. But, my wife and I were out adventuring so much that really weren’t there all the time. However, I had to get a hip replacement which slowed me down a bit. Since I couldn’t get out in the sun as much as I wanted, I brought the sun to me. I had a sunroom added to the side of our little home. It was perfect. But, it did get awfully hot around midday and that was before the summer heat set in. I called the HVAC pros in our town to see if they could help. I sort of thought they might be able to extend the central air system to the sunroom. However, I found out from the HVAC contractor that would be too much for our system. Instead, he suggested installing a mini split ductless heating and cooling unit. They are easy to install and the small compressor can be hidden under the eaves of the house. We went for it. The results have been fantastic. The sunroom is easily cooled off with the ductless HVAC unit. And, during the winter, it can knock the chill off that room while I am making the coffee.
