My husband of thirteen years, Jack, is an HVAC technician.
He usually loves his job and all of the other guys that he works with.
The HVAC supplier that he works for is a really great guy and the company is family owned. It’s been open for three generations now and they have a ton of repeat customers that Jack gets to deal with. He says that he really likes most of his customers, even though most of them aren’t ever all that interested in new HVAC technology. Most of the people that he ends up doing heating and cooling work for are from the older crowd, which is just fine with Jack. He always says that he would much rather work on an old school gas furnace or electric furnace than on something like a newer heat pump. He says that doing air conditioning maintenance or furnace maintenance on older models of HVAC equipment is always much easier to figure out than the newer stuff is. I guess that’s probably because most things now are way more computerized than mechanical. Jack is very good at figuring out mechanical issues but he’s not so great at figuring out computer stuff at all. I appreciate the way that he does try to learn about new HVAC technology, though. He’s always reading up on it and taking continuing education classes so that he can be at the top of his game when it comes to his job. That’s probably why he’s such a good HVAC technician and employee. He never wants to stop learning new things.
