A family heating business

I have worked in the corporate world as a manager for over a decade and a half, and I was more than ready to retire.

  • My brother, who works as a heating dealer at a heating company in the neighboring town, first introduced the idea of starting a heating business.

My brother and I finally had enough money to begin our town’s first-ever heater maintenance and services business. Our town has so much potential for the growth of small businesses, and given the type of summers and winters that we experience, this new venture was up-and-coming. My brother had a draft of our services, including heat pump installation and fireplace maintenance. People from my town are forced to outsource the assistance of an HVAC professional from different cities, which means that it could take more than a day or two for something as simple as heating repair. We also offer professional consultation for new homeowners or people looking to upgrade or install a new heating device. Besides heating equipment installations, there will also be heat pump-related repairs and servicing. And since most people still had dial thermostats, we would introduce them to more technologically advanced ones as a more viable option for their whole-home heating equipment, such as a smart thermostat to help with indoor comfort. The business arranges that I will deal with management and running the business while my brother will be in charge of its technical bit. We would hire one heating technician and add more when business picks up. We were both excited to start the new venture and make it a family legacy. It would also allow me to learn more about heating and the heating industry in general.
