My cousin is an alarmist. She basically said she had read where someone was taking air conditioning appliances out of the windows of dwellings. She kept telling me I needed to secure all of my window A/C appliances so no one would get them. I lived in the middle of a gated community. I couldn’t figure out how anyone who didn’t live in this particular community, could get inside the gates & steal something similar to an air conditioning appliance. Not only that, but all the people in our community had central air conditioning. If you had a window A/C appliance, it was most likely in the attic window. That would be quite a feat to get up to the attic & steal an A/C appliance without being seen. I laughed at Johnny when he started talking about the thefts. I told the guy how deranged that was, & I dismissed his worried actions. A week later, I was on my way back to my lake dwelling & I saw a Heating & A/C repair van pulling out of our community. It had a couple of A/C appliances on the back of the truck. Every one of us often saw odd repair vans inside the gate. I honestly thought nothing about this one, assuming a few people had modern A/C appliances installed. When I got back to my property, I parked in the garage & never thought to do an inspection of my dwelling. I was going into my lake dwelling & not entering some unknown hotel. I wish I had taken stock of my surroundings. It was something my partner was regularly telling myself and others to be aware of your surroundings. While I was at work, someone had managed to take my air conditioning appliance, & it was absolutely in the repair van that I had seen.
