Choose a heated flooring system for the kitchen

I am working on this winter season and I couldn’t be more excited.

  • I have grand plans to totally revamp the space.

I want to rip out my cupboards and add something totally new. I want quartz countertops, new appliances, recessed lighting, a bigger window and new flooring. I have spent months finalizing the layout of the kitchen and I finally have it. A big snag was what to do for a heating system. My kitchen is quite far from the living room gas fireplace. Due to this, the kitchen is never heated properly. I worry about my pipes freezing all the time. It would be smart to add a heating system in the space. I started looking at ventless heaters but I wasn’t pleased that they take up space on the floor level. That means that I would lose lower cabinet storage for it. I looked at a ductless mini split for the kitchen but that mounts on the wall and would be in the way of an upper cabinet. I started looking for smaller, more discreet heating options. That is how I found heated flooring. With this system the heating system is under the floorboards and doesn’t take up space. Since it is electric heated mats, no air is rising to the ceiling, there are no cold spots or operational noises. You just feel gentle, electric heat under your feet. Since my kitchen is quite small, the heated flooring cost was quite minimal. I think I can afford to hire a professional HVAC contractor to do it.
