Frozen evaporator coils

We keep getting unusual and extreme weather patterns this winter.

I live in a temperature that is predominantly subtropical, although winters can be quite interesting because the temperature will fluctuate wildly throughout the day and evenings.

Recently, this caused an issue with my heating and A/C, and my associate and I had a night that saw temperatures drop into the low 50s. I was running the heat that night, however I noticed that temperatures would soar into the low 70s by the time the afternoon arrived! Before I left for work, I set the A/C to run once a certain temperature was reached. By the time I got home, it was honestly hot in the house and I discovered that the A/C never seemed to turn on at all! Before long, I realized that the system was frozen up! I undoubtedly didn’t want to call out an HVAC company so I did some quick research online. I discovered that in order to thaw out the frozen coils I needed to turn off the A/C and run the fan on auto to melt all the ice away. I was hoping this would turn out to be the solution I needed, because if it didn’t work then that meant that there was some other complication going on besides low temperatures the previous night. Thankfully, the ice did melt off the coils and the A/C was able to function again! I was so glad that there were not any serious problems with my A/C.
