Helping with an HVAC upgrade

I just spent a long weekend at my mom’s house. She lives 12 hours away, by car. Flying there would take even longer because she lives in a rural area. If I flew, I’d still have to rent a vehicle to drive another four hours. I just got my road trip together, flipped the heating on, and got going north. Thankfully, snow and ice weren’t part of the trip. I wish I could convince mom to move down here with us. She’s not about to trade heating for cooling anytime soon. She likes seeing her grandchildren as well as spending time down here in the central air conditioner of our home. But she’s also been actually clear with me that she intends to die in her home; there was to be no discussion. That’s pretty much the way my mom is. She’s super independent as well as has absolutely lived her life the way she wanted to. And that’s a great thing in many respects. But it has also resulted in her being so stubborn that she can’t see that she is periodically being a bit ridiculous. This is why I had to drive up there. My sister lives not far from mom. She alerted me to the fact that she needs to have her HVAC unit updated. But mom is on a fixed income. She doesn’t have the money. Of course, I offered to buy the new heating and cooling unit, but she was having none of that. I spent the next few days convincing her that this had to happen. Quality residential heating and cooling was essential, even for her. Finally, she let me schedule an appointment.
