I'm not ready to spend a fortune on central climate control

Twelve years ago, my parents decided to retire and move to a different part of the country.

  • When they left, my husband and I bought their house.

We have been living there all this time. We have two children now, and the house could use some renovations. It’s not big enough anymore, and some of the major appliances need an update. My husband wants to add an addition to the east side of the place. I think that’s a good idea too. When we hire the building contractor, were also going to add central climate control. My husband has been unhappy with the climate control for 12 years. We have space heaters in each room, and the living room and master bedroom are equipped with air conditioners. Until the last few years, the air conditioners were enough to cool our residence. It seems like the temperatures are getting warmer and warmer, and I think it’s time to switch to central climate control. We already spoke to a contractor in the area, and we are going to buy a quality heat pump and air conditioner. It’s going to be expensive to add all of the ductwork, but we will only need to perform that job one time. Once we duct the system to the rest of the house, we won’t have to worry about the ductwork for a long time. My wife and I will probably be retired and living somewhere else, before that ever happens. At least if my kids want to buy this house someday, they won’t ever have to worry about central climate control.
