My family and I live out in the middle of the country.
We have a really nice piece of property on a couple of acres of land.
It gets really cold out in the country, especially up here in the northern part. During December, January, and February, it is not uncommon for the temperatures to be in the single digits during the day and negative temperatures at night. Yesterday it never reached zero and it’s only january. We still have two more cold months of weather. We’ve already had several snow storms as well. A couple of weeks ago, my son forgot to put wood in the furnace when he got home from school and it got cold very quickly. My son is 17 years old and it is his job to put wood in the furnace when he gets home from school. It is a chore that he has been doing since he was about 14 years old. For some reason he forgot and I did not get home until midnight. My wife can’t walk down the hill to the area where the furnace is located. It started to get cold around 8:00. My son was at work and my wife called me. I told her that the furnace was probably out. There was nothing I could do until I got home. My son got home an hour before me. He tried to get the fire going, but by then there were only embers in the bottom. I had to work for almost an hour before the furnace was stoked and hot again.
